What was Coydog’s treasure?
Coydog was Grey’s caretaker in Mississippi and he stole gold coins from a man named Clive Miller. In “The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey”, Episode 3, Gray remembered that he had hidden Coydog’s treasure under the wooden floor and so decided to pick it up.
Gray and his new guardian, Robyn Barne, found a small treasure box in which Gray had hidden a mysterious key and two gold coins (worth $50,000 each) which he called “Doubloons”. He further told Robyn that Coydog stole 14 gold coins, and when he handed the treasure over to an 8-year-old Grey, he mostly instructed him to use the coins to save Black people.
Coydog was captured by Clive Miller and his men, who questioned him about the parts, but Coydog refused to reveal their information. To threaten him, the racist men tied a noose around his neck and made him climb on a barrel of kerosene. Coydog refused to submit to their threats and hanged himself by setting these men on fire in revenge.
After Coydog’s lynching, Gray left Mississippi at age 12 and came to Atlanta with the treasure, but Gray was too young and naive to figure out how to use it. Later he met his wife, Sensia Howard, who loved pretty things, and so Gray used the coins to buy her luxury goods until Sensia was diagnosed with cancer, and Gray spent the money to cover medical bills. Gray wandered off after Sensia’s untimely death, and slowly his memory began to fade, which also took away the mission Coydog had given him.
But now, when Gray has remembered everything again, he wants to rectify his mistake and keep the promise he made to Coydog. Helping a parentless child, Robyn, was Grey’s act of atonement, and he probably believed that leaving his property for her could help the child survive in this big, lonely world.
Did Gray create Robyn for his new checking account?
Gray used to cash his retirement checks and hide the money in a suitcase, which over time accumulated to some $40,000. Gray once told a woman on the street about the hidden cash stash, but later forgot about it himself due to his dementia. Now, when Gray remembered everything, he quickly took out the suitcase and decided to put the money in a new checking account, making Robyn the signer of the same.
Gray knew he would lose his memory soon and, as Dr. Rubin suggested, it could be worse than before, so Gray wanted to make sure he left some money for his extended family before he lost the memories again. marbles. He deposited the amount in the bank and told his relative, Niecie, that Robyn would write him a check for $900 each month to take care of her and her son, Hilliard. Gray also had Robyn write checks to Reggie’s wife, Nina, and children, who were struggling both financially and emotionally after their father was murdered.
Gray and Robyn stopped at an antique store run by a man named Syed, whose late father, Jafar, was a very old friend of Grey’s. Gray used to sell his doubloons to Jafar because he trusted the man, and on that visit Robyn discovered that each coin was worth around $50,000. Although Gray refused to sell the piece in the scene, he might have had a use for it, which again would be to fulfill the promise he made to Coydog and help his people in the best way possible.
In the episode, Niecie complained to city authorities that Grey’s new babysitter, Robyn, was stealing from him and therefore needed special attention at a nursing home. Following Niecie’s complaint, an official named Darwin Andrews visited Grey, and although Gray addressed the situation with his wit and humor, he visited Niecie’s house so that she would not bother Robyn again. It was important for Gray to make Niecie understand that he trusted Robyn and that everything he did for her was of his own free will, otherwise Niecie and her bad boy would continue to harass Robyn after Gray lost again. memory, which could inevitably happen anytime soon.
During the conversation, Gray even inquired about Reggie’s murder, which helped him connect the dots and investigate further. He asked Niecie to set up another meeting at her house because he wanted to meet Reggie’s tight-knit circle again, though it’s obvious Gray wanted to question them so he could catch the murderer before his memory does not fly away.
Who killed Reggie?
In Episode 1, when Gray last met Reggie, he discussed with him the fear of losing his family. Nina’s ex-boyfriend, who was sent to prison for 20 years for murder, got out early and started seeing Nina again. Reggie asked Nina to leave the man alone, but she didn’t listen.
A helpless Reggie had decided to move to Texas with Nina and the kids as he believed the boyfriend wouldn’t be able to kick them out as leaving Atlanta would violate his parole. However, before Reggie could leave town, he was shot in the head, presumably by Nina’s ex-boyfriend. At that time, when Reggie revealed his problems to Gray, Gray was lost in his own thoughts trying to recall his memories, but now, when he was more consciously aware, he remembered the words of Reggie and decided to find out more from his close friends and family. .
When city official Darwin came to Grey’s house, he shrewdly questioned a coworker about Reggie’s case and discovered that the police weren’t interested in investigating a black man shot dead in the street. Gray held himself accountable because he believed that if his spirit hadn’t abandoned him he probably could have saved Reggie, but since he felt very much alive with Rubin’s treatment, he decided to get revenge on his murder.
While investigating the case, Gray discovered that Nina had sent her children to stay with Niecie to clear their minds after Reggie’s death. But Gray was sure Nina might be seeing her ex-boyfriend at her house, which was probably why she sent the kids away. Gray sensed Nina’s foul play and so had Niecie set up a meeting at her house so that Gray would question Nina about her relationship with her ex-boyfriend, who had Reggie killed. Future episodes of “The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey” will explore the mystery further while revealing the identity of Reggie’s killer and what Gray will do with those revelations. Will he kill the man for revenge? Or will he make it stop?
