Whoa. Sorry folks for being so absent.

I didn’t realize I hadn’t posted anything in a month.  wow.   Sorry friends. 🙂  hahaahahah.

honestly, the main reason why I hadn’t posted anything in a while is b/c my knitting was on a slight hold.  i wasn’t producing too much and felt…well, w/o a bag to show off or knitting, what else is there? 🙂 hahaah

Plus i had a business trip i took last week and I planned on knitting like a fool in my hotel room, but omg!  Doing all these stupid workshops and stuff all day really wore me out.  i was in bed by 11p every night!  say what?! hahaha.

I do have some stuff to show off today.  No bag though.  sorry folks. 🙂

This little hat took me like 2 hours to make hahahaa.  A friend of mine asked me to make a quick hat for another friend of hers.  This was a quick hat that needed to be shipped off within 2 days.    Thank you, bulky yarn and fat needles. 🙂   i did the pom pom on the hat instead of a tie b/c pompoms are awesome. 🙂

I did manage to make something super cute this week. 🙂

Hello Unicorn! are you tired? sit down... you really sleepy? wanna kiss on the cheek? you are out for the count! :) take a nap! you need a stretch? want me to help? you want me to what??? i see you are up from your nap are you hungry? bye bye unicorn. make sure you enjoy your dinner.

So i made this for my friend’s daughter.  i was told she was requesting another doll from Auntie Jen.  Who is Auntie Jen to deny a child a new toy?  Esp one made by Auntie Jen’s hands? hahaha.  I showed the unicorn to the girl’s mom already and she was all OMG OMG OMG!! SHE’S GOING TO LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. apparently every day when they drive to pick up older sister from school, they drive by some horses and she goes hog wild over them.  so this is good 🙂   granted it IS a unicorn and not a horse…but whatever. 🙂 hahahah.   I’m pretty pleased w/ how it came out!

I think that’s all folks.  have a great weekend!  I promise not to be such a stranger!

Thursday, no Purse-Day — Gong Hay Fat Choy!

i’m still being good and cleaning out all my junk and not buying new stuff.  I dont think i’ve come across any new bags this week.  so boo! 🙂

Today is the Lunar New Year.  I rarely do any kind of celebrating on this holiday since I’m far away from family, but I always feel like I should be going nuts w/ food, friends, family.  Yet I never do.  hahaha.  But Happy New year, everyone!

hk-rabbit

We’re also having a freeze over here in DFW.  It’s incredible.  I know like 2/3 of the country is experiencing a blizzard far worse than what we are experiencing.  I didnt’ know that we could get into single digit temperatures here.  that’s what’s incredible.  Driving it totally awful and I was holed up in my house for 2 days until today when I had to venture out and go to work.  Sigh.   And the Super bowl is happening here on Sunday.  Alot of chaos going on and ice on the roads isn’t something we need 😉

i did get alot of knitting done in the last few days.  Well, i say alot…alot for me lately. 🙂

Project:  114-30 hat in English Rib (DROPS)
Yarn:  Berroco Comfort DK
Amount Used:  less than a skein of each color
Color: Charcoal / beige
Needle Size: US 3 / 3.25mm  & US 6 / 4.0mm
Date Started: January 12, 2011
Date Finished: January 28, 2011

My mods:

  • cast on 113 sts. Ribbing…then realized it’s not supposed to be done in the round. So I’m knitting in the round until it’s time to do the English Rib and i’m going to knit flat at that point.
  • Obviously i did not knit the blocks of color. My brother wanted a single stripe done intermittently. I did the stripe every 2”.
  • i knit all the ribbing until the hat was about 10.5” long. Then i did k2tog all the way across for one row.
  • Did p2tog on the 2nd row.
  • another row of k2tog.
  • i just cinched it up at that point and then sewed the seam down.

My brother requested this hat after he saw a similar hat at REI.  why didn’t he just buy the stupid hat at REI instead of asking me to make it?  He likes having ORIGInAL things…things you can’t buy at the store.  in comes his idiot sister.  🙂   I’m pleased w/ how it came out and i really did love the ribbing.  i love how poofy it is!

I’m working on a new shawl and here are the beginnings of it:

an unfolded bias strip folded bias strip

I was going to use this yarn for a pair of legwarmers I started last year.  I am giving up on them and ripped them out b/c the gauge on the legwarmers are UNBELIEVABLE!  tight tight tight.  I can’t knit that tight.  i had enough for a sock cuff on both legs when i ripped out.  Some of the women at my sunday group were very very upset when they saw me pulling it all out.  They tried to convince me to convert them into a pair of socks.  I could have done that I guess.  but oh well. 🙂  muahaha!

everyone keep warm and safe.  Happy New year!

Thursday, Still No Purse-Day

I’m keeping up w/ my promise to cut down on buying stuff.  😀  hahah.  and i haven’t found any more purses in my arsenal that I haven’t shown on here yet.  So we are purse-free again today.

I do have a cute FO to show off. 🙂

Aren’t these CUUUUUUUUUUUUUUTE?????  I did not put a pearl in the center b/c while I do have some pearl beads, I did not have a needle that would fit thru the center so I could attach them properly.  So I just used a small 3 bead cluster of size 6 seed beads I had laying around.

Don’t you just want to eat them!?

I did have alot of issues w/ the pattern.  I had to re-write alot of it to how I saw the bootie should be in comparison to the pictures she posted online.  My end result w/ the unedited pattern ended up w/ a bootie that did not make sense.  who knows.  maybe i’m being cocky w/ my crochet skills.  maybe my skills suck.  maybe I just didn’t understand how she wrote it, but how she wrote it is correct.  Maybe the pattern is totally flawed and I am the most awesome crocheter that ever lived. lol.  jk.  nah. 🙂 it’s not that last thing.  but i got the end result and I’m pleased.

I don’t have much going on this week.  and I realized the other day that I forgot to post last week.  that’s what not having any FO’s to show off or having any purses to show off does to my blogging.  sigh.  so sad. 🙂

have a great weekend everyone!

Thursday, No Purse-Day

Happy New year!!!  No purse-day today, folks.  I’m actually going thru a huge cleaning phase and I’m going to be giving/selling a bunch of bags that I have collected over the years.  Yarn too. lol.   I”m just going to be keeping the things i cannot part with, but the rest of it is leaving me.

Why you ask?  it’s time I quit living underneath a pile of stuff.  ok.  it’s not that bad.  It’s bad enough though.  I spent the last 3 nights cleaning out my garage b/c it’s a 2 car garage and I can very comfortably fit my car into the garage, but I would like to be able to fit 2 cars in here comfortably.  I have stuff here that doesn’t need to be kept by me.   I have already started ebaying alot of collectible hello kitty stuff.  (EEEEK! NO WAY!)   Anyway, I”m pretty proud to say I got rid of half of the crap in my garage.  So much of it is crap i DO NOT even need!  junk!  My garbage men are gonna be pissed at me tomorrow, but oh well. 🙂    Some of the stuff I have is cute/nice/whatever and it all needs to go to a good home and not be kept here by me, unused and unloved.   I have a GIGANTIC box of purses/bags that i never ever use. yarn?  omg.  i’m prepping up a few boxes (large moving boxes) worth of yarn to be sold off/given away.  I swear, I have enough yarn to stock a small yarn shop.  When the yarn upstairs in the guest bedroom closet starts taking over the actual guest room, it’s time to get rid of alot of it.

I have been knitting a bit.  apparently it’s hat time.  I’ve gotten a couple of requests for hats and I am all about hats. 😀  That hat I was working on last week?  Turns out i don’t do proper gauge swatches.  WHen I was knitting on Thursday, Botgurl looked at the hat and said it looked really small.  Guess what!  It was so small, it would fit a baby, not a human adult!  GRR.  So I ripped it.  I was almost at the point of decreasing too.    I re-cast on w/ bigger yarn/needles and made the hat within a day.  muahah!

Before you judge me, this Everyday Yarn by Deborah Norville isn’t bad stuff! It was the perfect weight and color and it’s washable.  Do I care that I didn’t use “quality” yarn?  nope.  You wanna know why?  it’s not for me or someone I care about.  BWAHAHA!  it’ll keep the girl warm and look cute, so bang bang.   I didn’t feel like making it out of worsted weight wool b/c honestly, i never ever buy black/white wool.  and I dont want to have to explain to ppl who don’t know that you cannot machine wash wool b/c of felting, etc.  it makes me feel like I sound like a diva.

Pattern is well written except for one thing:  the decrease section of the chart is incorrect.  If you check the rav page on it, the author said that she corrected the error in the PDF, but she didn’t.  it’s not a horrible mistake, but it’s something you have to fix as you go.   Once you done as much herringbone as I have in the last 2 months, you will be able to see where the decreases are to go.  Author tells you in the notes what the screw up is, but it’s not something a newbie can just figure out.

My friend NanC said that for this year she wanted to make a list of 50 things she wanted to do rather than do the whole “resolutions” declaration.   She’s a list maker.  What can you say? hahah.  But i like the idea alot.   and even though my list isn’t finished, some of the things on my list are:

  1. be a better me
  2. quit eating junk – candy / froyo / cake i’m talking to you.
  3. cook more at home
  4. be more creative w/ cooking
  5. eat at least 2 servings of vegetables at every meal
  6. eat less cow
  7. do more cardio than I have been doing
  8. clean out the garage (COMPLETELY)
  9. knit less for people who don’t appreciate
  10. knit more for me / loved ones
  11. be less catty
  12. work smarter, not harder
  13. don’t mindlessly shop, shop smart
  14. be more thrifty when making purchases
  15. be more thankful for what I have
  16. think less about all the things I want
  17. be a meaner/rigid boss at work
  18. scan and reorganize old family photos
  19. throw away/donate things I don’t need anymore
  20. make at least one knit item for an unknown stranger / charity
  21. think about remodeling my bathroom
  22. visit my family sometime soon
  23. don’t let stupid things piss me off when it’s all beyond my control
  24. start eliminating bad obsessive habits
  25. be a better friend to my friends

list is a work in progress obviously. 🙂

have a great week everyone!

No Purse-Day this Thursday.

My laziness is taking over again.  I’m in one of those moods where I probably have a bag somewhere, but I don’t feel like digging it up. 🙂

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas.  I did.  Well, sort of.  I worked all day on Christmas Day!  Sort of ridiculous, but it was my own fault.  it’s all good.  I had a wonderful Christmas Eve. 😀  hahaha.   I got something shiny and new for Christmas from the boy.  NO, not jewelry this year.   I got a shiny new gun. 🙂  WHEEE! hahahaha.   Pics?  no pics.  again, me = lazy.

This week is the beginning of a new year.  a new DECADE even!  I didn’t realize it until I was reading someone’s twitter posts and she was going on and on about how this was her last whatever for the decade.  Then it kind of hit me.  Wow.   I’m getting old.  The older I get, the more fearful and grumpy I get about all this New Year stuff.  hahah.  I plan on staying home and chilling and avoiding the streets.  What do you plan on doing?

hello-kitty-new-year

I’m working on a matching herringbone hat for the gloves/scarf I did last week/month.  Why am I torturing myself?  I like the pain.  I have left over yarn and want to use it up.  Recipient loved it all from what i was told.  She’s a bit of a demanding princess.  I need to tell my friend no more knitting for her.   I might have to become a slightly selfish knitter now.

But I did finish a hat for the boy.  I was going to give it to him on Christmas, but i forgot.  And i forgot the couple of times I’ve seen him since then.  whoops. 🙂

Thursday Purse-Day!

I’ve got another bag to show off! 🙂

My friend Stephanie sent me this bag from her and her family for Christmas.  She’s so sweet!  She always sends me a Christmas gift even though I tell her every year not to do so!  it’s a beautiful bag!  Good and large! for all my STUFFS!! 🙂   THank you, Stephanie!

I finally finished some contract knitting.  finally.  just in time for Christmas.

We are not speaking of the gloves.  Gloves are dead to me.  Mitts? YESSSSSSS!!  I told the recipient “Look, either you get mitts or you get NOTHING.  I’m not doing the gloves.  the fingers are killing me.”  He agreed. 😀

These are actually alot of fun to do.  I had to make adjustments though.   Lemme tell you why. 🙂 the person that wrote the pattern said that alot of ppl complained that they were running a bit small.  I did not heed the warning.  I did the M size.  I finished ONE glove up to the ribbing.  The dang thing didn’t fit MY hand.  GRRRRRRRRRRRR.  So i Had to start all over!!!  AAAAAAAH!!  but once I got it going, it went well.  I do love these mitts.  I don’t like the colors, but I do love the pattern.  so pretty 🙂  brown and pink anyone?  TEE HEEEE

Anyway…adjustments!

  • CO 60 sts to make the M size.
  • Thumb is 24 sts.
  • I was going to do the thumb in pattern, but Botgurl said i should just do it in black b/c it would pop more.  she’s right.  🙂  I hate it when she’s right.
  • I had to adjust the increases from every 4 rows to every other row.  if I did every 4 rows, the mitts would have gone down to the elbows.

I can’t wait to give these up. hahahaha.

Merry Christmas!

Christmas is this Saturday (in case you didn’t know!)   Everyone has busy plans?  I plan on working!  BRING IT ON, TIME AND A HALF!!   hahahaah.  everyone have a safe and wonderful holiday!

Thursday Purse-Day!

Ok.  I do have a case this week. 🙂  It’s purty and I wanna show it off. 🙂

purple cherry blossom nook cover open! it's an easel stand too :)

I’ve been eyeing it for a long time and I had to get it.  i have no self control. 🙂  cute eh? hahaha

I finished the herringbone scarf.  yay!  I think i’m going to line it w/ some fabric to keep the recipient extra warm.  She lives in NYC now and i’m guessing she needs the extra warm.

herring4 herring5 herring8 herring1

Project:  Herringbone Scarf (i made it up)

Needle Size: US 8 / 5.0 mm
Date Started: Dec 7, 2010
Date Finished: Dec 16, 2010

I just made up the pattern b/c the person asking me to make the scarf had specific requests:

  • Girl’s intials on the scarf (KRV)
  • Her zodiac sign be on the scarf (scorpio)

I just made a seed stitch border and used a herringbone chart to fill in the rest.  I had to chart out the scorpio sign and her initials.  Came out fine.  It curls quite a bit though which realllllly bothers me, which is another reason why I want to line it w/ fabric to keep it flat.

what about the gloves?  The gloves are dead to me.  the fingers aren’t going to fit her.  They don’t fit me.  they are frustrating.  i want them to go away.  end of that. hahaahah.

What else is going on?  not much.  work work work.  holidays are almost here.  I’m ready for them to be over like i am every year. hahaha.  I’ve really turned into a Scrooge.

We had our annual Simpatico Christmas party which is always a blast.  Lots of food, presents, laughing, and for some reason we had a ton of booze this year.  i had some pomegranate sangria which was very tasty. 😀    Peggy gifted us w/ Angel stitch markers.  She’s so sweet and her stitch markers are always so awesome!  This was the 10th Christmas party.  it’s amazing how time flies.  I started going to the annual event on party #4.  I had to miss #3 due to my friend being in town and not being able to get away to go.   I can’t believe I’ve known and have partied it up w/ these people for over 7-8 years now.  Time really does fly.

Aren’t they cute!? 😀    More pics are available on my flickr page if you dare look at them.  hahaha.

Have a great weekend everyone!  Thanks for stopping by!

another one?

another Thursday and no purse is up.  I have one I can put up, but I’m lazy.  I might just stop the Purse-Day thing for a while and just blog whenever I actually finish stuff. hahaha.  what a novel idea.

Something called work has really gotten in the way of my knitting.  wtf? hahaha.   I had so many things I needed to finish up and i’m not meeting ANY deadlines.  stupid work.  I know… I sound like a brat.  Sorry sorry.  It’s as Janice said…It’s like I’m a grown up now.   Eh.  this tour into grown-up-ism has been nice and all, but I think I’ve had enough.  Lemme go back to my slacker ways. 🙂  jk.  i don’t want to give up the money.  i’m in too deep now.  hahaah.

I really underestimated my abilities here.  I gave myself super powers I do not possess!   It’s actually taking me a bit of time to finish things!   I miss being able to knit while i was at work.   wah wah wah…yeah i know.  Want some cheese w/ that wine?  Actually, I personally do not.  That would sort of hurt me. 😀

I hope everyone is doing well!   is everyone getting ready for the upcoming holidays?  Started shopping yet?  done w/ shopping?  I have one person to buy presents for and I’m having a hard time deciding what I’m going to grab.  I’m really behind in everything at this moment. 🙂

I’ve put the gloves away for a bit longer since I’m really angry at the fingers part of it.  I’ve let the recipient know that i’m going to murder those gloves soon and there was NO indication that he would like for me to stop killing myself over them.  grr grr.  I did get going on the matching herringbone scarf and that is actually going very well.   Did you know there are no herringbone scarf patterns on ravelry?  Well, none that involve flat fair isle.  I was a bit fearful of it, but it has proved to be working very well so far.  As long as I keep things loose.  Purling fair isle isn’t difficult, but it’s not the easiest thing.  I look insane as I do it, the way my right hand grips the needles and the yarn.  it’s unnatural looking.   anyway, i just took a herringbone chart and made up my own scarf pattern with it.  nothing awesome or difficult.   it’s working up fast and I hope to be done w/ it within the next day or two.

small herring

I’ve actually worked up about 7 inches since i took this picture last night.  not bad right? 🙂

I think that’s all for now. 🙂   i hope to have more pics to show off next time.  Maybe next Thursday, maybe sooner. 😉  I’d be honored if you checked back with me!  have a great weekend, everyone!

So guess what?

I haven’t run out of purses, but i’m not posting a bag up.  Mainly b/c it’s 11:51p and i have 9 minutes to dig thru and find a bag to make it in time for Thursday Purse-Day.   so for the first time in like 5 years or whatever…no Thursday PurseDay.  hahaah.  I didn’t get an email about it today so I kind of forgot.

Actually, last night after being at work all day and getting ZERO sleep for 2 nights before, i was so exhausted I went to bed at 10p and just slept slept slept.   sigh.

And I haven’t gotten much knitting done this week.  Why?  No GOOD reason.  Thanksgiving was awesome.  I ate a bit, chilled out alot, worked a bit, slept alot…it was good!  but I started a really busy week/month on Monday and I haven’t had time to slow down since then.

I found alot of left over sock yarn while cleaning up in my living room.  I was making room for the Christmas tree. 😀

I did manage to work on a quick headband project last weekend and i finished it.  😀

using leftover yarn from our SSS project like 4 years ago.  found it while cleaning up and thought “What can I do w/ a bit of leftover sock yarn?”

it’s a bit smaller than the panta in the picture.  no doubling of yarn…all single.

using the pattern from DROPS is not very helpful.  the instructions are very vague and frankly, i’m impatient.  I did a search thru ravelry and saw someone referred to a posting in crafter a few years ago and I searched thru there.

someone actually posted a pattern in there.  once you read it, then the DROPS pattern actually makes sense.

That’s all for this week, folks. 🙂

Oh…here is a gratuitous shot of my Christmas tree. 😀

thursday purse-day!

hey everyone  guess who forgot to post before she went to sleep last night?!  doh!! hahahahah my bad

I tried to post mid afternoon and got frustrated on my phone.  So then I came home and fell asleep and FORGOT.  I still have a little over an hour to spare.    eeek. hhahaah

Happy Thanksgiving!!

Gobble gobble everyone!!!!

This is the first year in my life that I haven’t spent my Thanksgiving back home w the parents.   I volunteered to work a few months ago like a doofus. 😉  It’s fine.  I’ve been very lucky that I’ve been able to go home every Thanksgiving for the last 15 years.   It was my turn to sacrifice for once, right? 🙂    It’s been a wonderful day actually.  I went to work, got everything done, had a great time w/ co-workers (as usual), then went to a friend’s house for Thanksgiving lunch.  Promptly pigged out.  Zoned out while watching Rocky IV…a very American movie. 🙂  hahaaha.  Came home, went to bed, woke up 4 hours later…ready to eat again. 🙂

And of course, I always have to do what I’m thankful for each year.  What is Thanksgiving w/o a list of things you are so thankful for?

  • My family
  • my wonderful friends
  • My job (or just the fact that I even HAVE a job!)
  • My home
  • The boy

I guess I could be less cheesy and more specific huh?  Eh.  I could be.    hahaahah  but nah.   I’m grateful for everything in my life, good and bad.  And i say this about the bad very sparingly…but w/o the bad, you don’t realize what good is in your life right?    So yeah i’m thankful for that too to an extent. 🙂

I have been knitting, but not much this week.  I have no excuses really except for the fact that I’m not happy w/ what i’m working on at the moment.  Those herringbone gloves are starting to piss me off.  doing the fingers…SUCK. 🙂   enough said.   So i have no WIP’s to show off this week.

I didn’t forget.  The purse of the week!

IMG-20101125-00141 inside.

isn’t this the cutest vintage bag!?!??!  My friend…crazy Kathy (who will never see this b/c she doesn’t know what the internet is!) gave this to me on Tues and I fell in LOVE with it!  It’s a treasure found in the belongings of someone in her family who passed away a few years ago.  They are finally going thru that woman’s things and they found alot of stuff apparently.   Alot of girly crap that I love..hats, gloves, purses, etc.  sigh.   so bad.

Thanks everyone for stopping by. 🙂  Have a great holiday weekend!
