Happy blogiversary to meeeeee!

HEY!  I just realized my Blogiversary just passed!!!

Happy blogiversary to meeeee!!

I’ll be back with a real update this week.  I just came to the realization today and had to put something up!  lol

Hello my friends…

I have to apologize for my long absence from the blog world.   it’s been like almost 2 months since I last blogged and I wouldn’t blame you if you dropped me like a hot potato and forgot about me.

On Chinese New Year,  I was all WHOO HOO!!! this year is gonna be awesome!!!  Well, poo.  At the end of January and the entire month of February was a busy hard month for me mainly b/c the boy was really sick and stuck in the hospital for 2 weeks.  I spent alot of time at the hospital (besides work time), and i spent alot of time at home being a nursemaid.   he got a very bad bacterial infection and had alot of problems pop up after that.  his little episodes here could have killed him.   Even though I wasn’t the one that was sick, it was hard on me emotionally.  Why is that?  i’m not the one laid up in a bed w/ iv and O2 and abx and blah blah blah blah.  heheh.  but whatever.  I guess the most upsetting thing is that he could have died and I don’t know how I could have handled such a loss.  I don’t think I could function if something like that happens.  But he’s better now which makes me better now too.  :)

Anyway, if you are still here with me, thank you. :)   I made a bit of a change on the blog where I installed some fonts.  I noticed everyone was getting all these fancy fonts on their blogs and i felt left out! lol.

With all this, I have managed to be knitting and crocheting. hahaah.   And i’m totally hooked on Pinterest right now.  so lame huh?  I’ve been on there a while, but just in recent months w/ all the buzz, there is more stuff on there to look at and more of my friends are on there, so now it’s more interesting.  bah.  It’s another bad thing to be hooked on on the internet.  Like there aren’t enough distractions already! hahaha.    I’m mainly pinning FOOD and alcoholic drinks and desserts.  I don’t drink…so why the drinks?  b/c i’m stupid and it’s so easy to hit that repin button. LOL

What i got going on here?  I finished that baby hat to w/ the cardigan and the baby shoes.  The baby shower for the mom-to-be was on Feb 4th.  Mommy was so surprised and happy to see she was getting the set.  which is hilarious b/c she saw me knit on all the items and I kept telling her that I was making them for my cousin.  tee-hee!

Isn’t it CUTE??? I love the little red tip!!  SQUEEEEEEEEE!!!

Are you guys into mason jars?  I frakking love them.  I love drinking out of them, storing things in them, etc.   I especially love drinking out of them.  Botgurl feels the same way I do.  The boy told me on discovery channel, there is some show called Moonshiners where they sell their moonshine in mason jars.   whoo hoo. haahah.  anyway, Bot mentioned she would love a cozy for her mason jar and i whipped one out one night just to see how long it would take me.  it didn’t even take me a few hours.   very cute.  I was going to dup. stitch some cute hilarious little design on the cozy, but it looked jacked up when i got half way thru, so i just took it all out.  never mind.  simple is best. :)

I used the pattern above but adjusted the stitch count for the size of the jar and the yarn size.  I could have made it a couple of rows longer, but i figured it was long enough?  Bot said that the cozy got alot of buzz at her office. tee hee.

One of my favorite cousins had a baby back in …. oh geez.  Sept.  His wife asked if I would make a blanket for the new baby and stuff.  I happily agreed.  I made a blanket in time for me to take when i was there in october for my grandfather’s funeral, but i wasn’t happy w/ the blanket.  So I didnt give it to them.  I wasn’t able to see them anyway b/c of some Chinese superstitions… but honestly?   I was unhappy w/ how the turquoise yarn shedded all over the freaking place when i washed the blanket.  I couldn’t give them something that shedded that much.  So i made a whole new blanket with super wash wool (they live in Canada…it’s cold up there)  I finally finished it after deciding on which blanket to make.   It’s late, but baby can always lay on top of it.  :)

It didn’t take too long to make.  i love crochet for blankets!! :)  Chewy liked the blanket alot.  As I was taking pictures, he had to lay all over it.  Isn’t he adorable? :)

Among all the madness, my baby brother asked me for a batman hat.  :)

I should have posed the ears better whenever I took the pics, but at the time I just didn’t care. My brother sent me a hilarious picture of him wearing the hat, but I’m not going to share it. :(  He would be mad at me if i did that w/o his permission. hahaah.

I had childhood friend that had her baby back in Nov.  I promised her a Yoda hat and sweater a long time ago and I never really made one for her.  Then she said something in passing one day that made me feel bad that I never delivered on the Yoda hat.  So I decided to start one one night and I was really shocked at the fact that I finished it in one night while catching up on tv shows.  I amaze myself sometimes. LOL.

I made the hat really large b/c baby is huge.  That’s why on Zoe the hat looks ginormous and on the adult head it looks really small.  hahaah.  I did not stiffen the ears b/c I feel that that could possibly be toxic when the parents wash the hat.  so i’d rather have them deal w/ floppy ears. :)

Another friend had a baby in December and I got the birth announcement the other day.  So what does that mean?  gotta bust out a gift.  This is just one piece of her gift….for Miss Olivia. :)

Happy Thursday!

Hi everyone. Thanks for stopping by :)  I hope your week has been treating you well so far.

I do have a purse I want to show off…but I haven’t taken pictures of it yet.  So you guys have to wait another week. :) hahaha  sorry folks.  Slackness rules.

My knitting mojo really has come back w/ a vengeance.  I’ve made up for the last few months when I hardly knit a thing.   So i’ve got some FO’s to show off.

Made to go w/ the Yoda sweater shown last week.  The baby set is complete for grandma to give at her shower.   I did not put stiffner in the ears as directed by the pattern b/c I had none…and i was scared the stiffner would wash out if they washed the hat.  I felt they were stiff enough. That couple’s gift is done.  That monkey is off my back. :) hahahaha.

I think that’s all for now.  Not much is going on in my life except for work and knitting.  It’s weird..i knit/crochet so much this week that my hands were actually hurting on Tues.  I had to give myself a little break….less intensity.

I’m in the middle of a hat to match the 70′s stripey cardigan and booties.  I hope to give the complete set soon.

I found out that one of my cousin’s had a baby in December and another one is due any day now.  EVERYONE IS HAVING A BABY…or getting married.  ugh.  Everyone needs to slow down on the breeding…for Purse-Ho’s sake please :) hahaha.

I hope everyone has a good weekend this weekend.  Thanks for stopping by :)  Take care and be safe!

OMG

I can’t believe I haven’t posted jack crap in over a month…almost TWO MONTHS!!

Sorry folks!  I’ve had a reallllly busy few weeks apparently!!  Or was it pure laziness?  maybe a bit of both.

I’ll tell you this..i haven’t gotten THAT much knitting done in the last few weeks.  That baby blanket?  It be done, but I am en process on sewing on the fabric backing and i’m having to do it by hand.  BLECH!  I was going to hand deliver it to my cousin up north, but I didn’t have it done in time.   My grandfather passed away on the last day of Sept, so I had to make a very last min trip up north and i just didn’t have the blanket completely ready.  I couldn’t go visit that cousin anyway (opposite side of the family, plus other reasons…), so I didn’t try to rush on finishing it up.  It gives me time to finally do the baby sweater, hat and booties I was going to make to match.  :)  But yes, my family loss took up about 2-3 weeks of the last month.  plus i’ve been working 6-7 days a week since Sept 1st.  I just haven’t had much time to knit/crochet.  I did work on a few slippers that did NOT turn out as I expected.  Honestly, as much as I tried, I should have THREE full pairs of slippers and a ton of FO’s to show off!  but noooooooooooooo……  ok  ok enough. :)

I did buy a new bag this month.  But there is something really odd about it.  well, it seemed familiar…but i wasnt sure why.

I realized tonight when I was going to take pictures of it that I had this SAME EXACT bag already, except in black.  I guess I never took a pic of it and posted it here b/c I can’t find it.  but oMG!!  the EXACT same bag bought like 8 months apart!  WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME???

The OG the new one i'm sick i tell you!!

Sighh…..

I did get one FO done this month.  I made another Saints Hat for my sweet little friend Quadry.  I finished it and gave it to his mom before I could take a picture.  But honestly? it looks exactly like the last one I did except this was the yarn was doubled and I made it for a toddler.  and I made a HUGE pom pom for it. lol

I’m reposting the original photo, but then I’m posting a pic of the sweet boy wearing the hat that his parents sent to me. :)

Isn’t he CUUUUUUUUUUUUUUTE???? I just want to squish him and love him!!

Oh I did manage to find a day to hit up the Texas State fair to see my stuff hanging up there. :)  Here is my entries!

4th place (honorable mention) crochet toys. my fair isle stocking cap

Is it me, or is how the stocking cap hung up totally insane???  I mean I don’t think I would have thought it was  a stocking cap except that i KNEW IT WAS A STOCKING CAP!!!  hmm.   I’m never ever pleased w/ how they display alot of the stuff at the fair and I”m not sure why it bothers me so much.  Not just my stuff…most of the stuff in general.  Alot of the bigger items like afghans and stuff don’t get proper credit to display how beautiful they are when they are kind of heaped up in a corner.  oh well.  that is me.  That’s my problem. :)

and I have to show the gratuitous Chewy pics.  He’s getting too big. :(  I miss the tiny baby Chewy.  He’s getting big and he’s getting into so much trouble!!!

My lil' rebel!! :) trying to rub the tshirt off of himself. lol he's trying to access porn, but he has no fingers to type with and no touch screen. lol

Yeah I know.  i’m one of those idiots that loves to dress up their pets.  I found that Tshirt at Ross for $2.  how can I resist.  I thought it was going to be too big, but to my surprise it fit him perfect. ;(  That made me sad.  hahahaha.

Thanks for stickin’ w/ me folks.  I wouldn’t blame you if you left me totally due to my lack of posts…but I promise to be better. :)

Have a great halloweenie weekend!

Thursday, Yes….PurseDay!

I actually have a bag for today, folks. :)

panties!! happy clouds just a wee bag :)

I picked up this bag at A-Kon this year.  I went there w/ my friend Kathy and ended up spending way too much money.  Sigh.  But i saw this little bag and i had to have it!  isnt it cute?  it’s a pair of panties!!

i started a new shawl this week.  I’m working on a variation of EZ’s Pi shawl.  you know how in the beginning of a shawl project, the beginning is the most exciting part and you just zip right thru it??  i did that while catching up on Big Bang Theory eps that I missed.  I apparently had missed 7 of them.  WTF?  i’m all caught up now. :)   but anyway, i got past the exciting part and I”m on the boring part.  i’m also using some hand dyed yarn that i dyed last month and apparently, i didn’t rinse the yarn well enough b/c my hands and everything I touched are RED.  ARGH!!!

But i did finish a little project this week. :)

I did this on bigger yarn than the pattern called for b/c i had it laying around.  so I made it bigger, but I didn’t have bigger eyes.  I had the 9mm eyes as required for the doll, but since the doll was bigger, this one’s eyes look beady.  blech.  and i didnt embroider the mouth on bc when I tried, it looked really weird so i stopped trying.   He’s Santa Gnome :)

Friday is my bday and I’m starting to feel a little weird about it being that time of year again.  I’m actually starting to feel old now.   Gone is that feeling of “man i’m so glad I’m in my 30′s”.  well, don’t get me wrong.  I am, in some ways, glad I’m in my 30′s.  But maybe it’s b/c i’m inching toward 40.  My to-do list for life isn’t even complete yet.  Maybe that’s why I’m dreading this birthday.  Who knows.    Sigh.  Alot has happened in the last 12 months and maybe that’s some of it too.  it’s a weird feeling in my tummy and my brain right now.

But anyway, I found this photo on flickr and thought I would hijack it. :)  and personalize it for myself. haha it’s a pretty cake!  too pretty to eat!! :)

Have a good weekend, everyone! :)

thursday purse-day!

hey everyone  guess who forgot to post before she went to sleep last night?!  doh!! hahahahah my bad

I tried to post mid afternoon and got frustrated on my phone.  So then I came home and fell asleep and FORGOT.  I still have a little over an hour to spare.    eeek. hhahaah

Happy Thanksgiving!!

Gobble gobble everyone!!!!

This is the first year in my life that I haven’t spent my Thanksgiving back home w the parents.   I volunteered to work a few months ago like a doofus. ;)  It’s fine.  I’ve been very lucky that I’ve been able to go home every Thanksgiving for the last 15 years.   It was my turn to sacrifice for once, right? :)    It’s been a wonderful day actually.  I went to work, got everything done, had a great time w/ co-workers (as usual), then went to a friend’s house for Thanksgiving lunch.  Promptly pigged out.  Zoned out while watching Rocky IV…a very American movie. :)  hahaaha.  Came home, went to bed, woke up 4 hours later…ready to eat again. :)

And of course, I always have to do what I’m thankful for each year.  What is Thanksgiving w/o a list of things you are so thankful for?

  • My family
  • my wonderful friends
  • My job (or just the fact that I even HAVE a job!)
  • My home
  • The boy

I guess I could be less cheesy and more specific huh?  Eh.  I could be.    hahaahah  but nah.   I’m grateful for everything in my life, good and bad.  And i say this about the bad very sparingly…but w/o the bad, you don’t realize what good is in your life right?    So yeah i’m thankful for that too to an extent. :)

I have been knitting, but not much this week.  I have no excuses really except for the fact that I’m not happy w/ what i’m working on at the moment.  Those herringbone gloves are starting to piss me off.  doing the fingers…SUCK. :)   enough said.   So i have no WIP’s to show off this week.

I didn’t forget.  The purse of the week!

IMG-20101125-00141 inside.

isn’t this the cutest vintage bag!?!??!  My friend…crazy Kathy (who will never see this b/c she doesn’t know what the internet is!) gave this to me on Tues and I fell in LOVE with it!  It’s a treasure found in the belongings of someone in her family who passed away a few years ago.  They are finally going thru that woman’s things and they found alot of stuff apparently.   Alot of girly crap that I love..hats, gloves, purses, etc.  sigh.   so bad.

Thanks everyone for stopping by. :)  Have a great holiday weekend!

Thursday Purse-Day!

Hello everyone.  Happy Thursday!  Just one more day till the weekend!  Anyone have exciting plans?  I do not. hahahaa.  :D  nothing wrong w /a calm quiet weekend, I always say.

Here is this week’s bag!

I went to the mall this week to replace a watch battery.  Did you know it cost like $25 for a watch battery!?!?!?  WTF???  I remember when it used to cost like $5-$10?  I was so shocked.   Anyway, while i was wandering around the mall waiting for them to do that..i wandered into Hot Topic.  sigh.

hk backpack back hk back

Isn’t it cute?  i really fought the urge to get it b/c it’s white and all….but standing there for about 15 min sealed the deal.  sigh.   It’s super cute.  Will I ever use it?  Maybe not.   I’m actually having a bit of buyers’ remorse and I might take it back. :)  sigh.

I haven’t sew on any buttons onto my Hey, Teach cardi.  i think i might ending giving it away to a friend that it might fit better than it fits me.  Am I crazy?  Sure.  hahahaa.  I could tell myself that I need to lose 10 lbs to make it fit better.  Is that realistic?  it is.  But who knows.  Sometimes I would rather give it to someone who would appreciate it better than I could.  Ask me later.  I might have changed my mind. :D

So I’ve been knitting a bit.  I cashed in on all those urges I had last week and I’ve had some successes and failures.

Baby jacket/sweater

My friend Becky at work managed to adopt a baby last week.  Well, she’s in process.  But a baby pretty much fell into her lap.  It’s something we’ve joked about for years, but never imagined would actually happen.  I got the txt about it on Fri, so I had to run up to work just to hug her and gabber with her about it.  If there was anyone more deserving of a child, it’s Becky.   I was high about this for days.  When I saw the pictures of her going home w/ her new son, I just started weeping tears of joy.   So on Fri night I started a cute baby sweater i’ve been wanting to start for a while.  She’s always loved asking me what I was making, what i was working on, etc….always in amazement.  I kept telling ppl at work “OMG i can’t knit fast enough! I had no time to plan/prepare!”  hahah.

I put the jacket on Zoe first and it barely fit.  This project is made for a newborn-6mo baby.  Zoe is a 9 mo size (supposedly).   I put the jacket on Bitty Baby and it was way too big.  But Bitty Baby is like a preemie size.  Shockingly, I have no doll that is an in-between size.

I don’t know what I did, but the jacket didn’t turn out exactly as planned.  the jacket doesn’t meet up in the center.  it’s really off to the side.  It’s still cute, mind you.  haha. just not what I expected.

The construction of the jacket is pretty genious.  I recommend it.

Leyburn socks

As i was rolling up the yarn for this project, my swift freaking broke and all the yarn just collapsed.  So i tried to keep going with the winding…yeah i just ended up w/ a huge mess.  i was getting so pissed off i cut off ONE section to make a gauge swatch.  Lucky for me, my dear friend Mary loves to untangle stuff.  She’s weird huh?  hahahaha.  She untangled it all for me within a day or so of me asking, thank goodness. :D   The color is really fantastic.

The gauge swatch I made on US 1′s was way too small.  So today I plan on making another gauge swatch on US 2′s or US 3′s.  We’ll see what happens.

Haruni Shawl

I was really pumped up about this project.  I rolled up the yarn (Skacel Merino Lace), cast on and realized the yarn is WAAAAAAAAAAY too thin.   Someone else on rav did it w/ this yarn and doubled the yarn…had more than enough.  So i  split up the yarn and doubled it.  was feeling ok about it until I knit about 20 rows and I realized I HATED how it felt.  I kept going though…but i felt it was lacking.  The yarn didn’t have any kind of sheen.  it felt like ….burlap to me.  So on Sunday, Barb said “If you dont’ like it, rip it out.”   Agreed.  So I did.  I restarted it with Louet Gems and OMG!  it feels sooooo goooood!!!!

haruni2

I think the rich navy blue color is fantastic too. :D  So i’m pleased with how it’s turning out so far.  Ask me tomorrow.  I might change my mind by then :D

i Think that’s all for now.   Texas State Fair entries are due soon.  I’ve decided to enter more than just the baby blanket.   Hey did you know there is a Christmas stocking category?  WHOO HOO!  i might do one just for the fair, or submit the one I made for myself this last year. :D  Haven’t decided yet.  I think a Santa stocking w/ a big fluffy beard would be nice to submit.  we’ll see.  i’m on a knitting high right now…so i might change my mind.  Do you see a repeating theme here?  hahah

have a great weekend everyone :D

Happy Blogiversary to meeee!

hello-kitty-birthday1

Happy 6th blogiversary to me!  It’s been 6 years already.  Where does the time go?  sheesh.

Now if anyone wants to send me some money in celebration, I am more than happy to take your cash.  i will provide an address you can send it to if you so insist.  ahahahh!

Thanks everyone for stopping by and checking out what’s going on w/ me in my boring life :D    I <3 you all! :D

It’s hard to believe I haven’t run out of bags since i started doing the purse-day thing.  But i think i might be reaching that point very soon.  Will you guys even bother to tune in if I have to end that feature? hahaha or if it becomes a NOT weekly thing?

Thursday Purse-Day!

happy Thursday everyone!  I hope everyone is having a great week so far!

I was sitting here thinking about what bag I hadn’t put up online yet.  I thought…omg.  have i really RUN OUT OF THEM???  nope.  I found one that i’m surprised i never posted before :)

depeche open back view while open

Botgurl and I went to the Depeche Mode concert back in 2005.  wow.  has it really been 5 years since that great show??  Sheesh!!  We’ve even been to another one of their shows since this one!  anyway, we always hit the merchandise table to see if there is anything good.  I rarely buy t-shirts b/c they are cheaply made, i never wear them and they cost too much.  So i always look for alternatives:  bags, mugs, buttons, stickers.   This bag was pretty inexpensive.  If memory serves me right, $10.  wheee!

Thanks to everyone for all the bday wishes. :)   you guys really made my day!!   I haven’t gotten much knitting done this week due to some chaos around here.   i tried to help/support the boy thru a terrible tragedy and it’s weird how knitting isn’t on my priority list when bad things happen like this.    thanks for the friends that are aware of what happened and for your prayers.  They are greatly appreciated.

well, actually, I did knit some and the boring feather and fan on the blanket was kind of good.  Mindless (BUT BORING) knitting.   but knitting this many stitches is starting to drive me bonkers.  good news!  i’m on the border part of the blanket !! YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  so next week i will have a finished blanket to show off.

But i have a dilemma.  So i ran out of yarn.  I shopped my stash to start the blanket like a good girl and found these 3 skeins of jitterbug i got for $40.  not bad right?  considering this stuff sells for $25 a skein street value.  ahahah  well, i had to buy two more skeins from loopy ewe to give me what i needed to finish.  In the poor lighting at my house, i couldn’t tell there was a dye lot issue.  Normally i don’t care about that stuff b/c i can usually just deal.  but in the daylight lighting at BN on Weds night, i noticed a BIG difference.

hushhush2

CAN YOU SEE????????  it’s PEACHY in the center, but then more PINKY toward the edges!?!?  WTF?!?!?! AAAAAAAAAAH!!  it’s the same damn color, but diff. dye lots!!!   i can’t leave it like this and say it’s a design element!

What am i going to do????  I’m going to submit this to the state fair and I can’t have it looking like this!!  some of the gals said to just finish it and see how it looks when i’m done.   i was going to finish it regardless.  I wasn’t going to tink back what i did.   i was about 20 rows in when i realized what happened.  Then a thought occurred….i could just dye it once i’m done.   Someone suggested doing like a tea dye…other suggested doing a totally diff. color.  I thought OOOH!!  CRIMSON RED!  but for a baby blanket?  eh.  not such a keen idea.   Someone suggested black which isn’t a bad idea, but i don’t know how ppl would handle a black baby blanket.

What should i do?   HELP ME!  what do you guys think?  if i dye it, what is your suggestion for color?  leave me a comment or shoot me an email and give me your thoughts!  PLEEEASE! :D

OMG!  i’ve always wanted one of these, but I never actually bought one.  hahaahah.  She said i would probably need like 4 of them and she’s probably right. :D   But thank you, Debbie!  I can’t wait to use it!

33rd

Today is my 33rd birthday.   Man.  I don’t like saying “33″ for some reason.   I guess I’m just going to have to get used to it.  At least I have stopped thinking “I’m TWENTY—….uhh..” when ppl ask me how old I am. :)  oh but anyway, that’s why I was gifted some gifties above. :)   It’s been an interesting year.   Mostly good w/ some sad/bad sprinkled in.    Thanks to friends from the Simpatico group that have already helped me celebrate my bday on Weds. :)

This has been a very unproductive knitting week.  On Friday I decided it was time i peeled all the wallpaper off my half bath downstairs to prep it to paint.  It took me Fri night, Sat night and Sun night to scrape and peel all that freaking wallpaper off the walls.   I looked up all this information on how to do it properly and everyone said to score it then spray it with a fabric softner and water solution.  Well, I scored it and bought some solution at the home depot.  the solution didn’t work for me.  waste of money!  I want my $6 back! hahaha  And i think scoring didn’t help me much either.  When i started peeling, it just peeled off in little pieces.  I think if i did NOT score, the pieces would have come off more in sheets more than what happened.   This is a tiny little bathroom and it took me ages to do this. hahaha.  I even took the toilet tank off the top of the toilet to get to the wallpaper behind the tank!  and I managed to pull off a big mirror off the wall w/o any issues.  It was a very interesting and a big learning process for me.   I was finally able to prime and paint on Sun night / Monday afternoon-night.   never again.  hahaha.  i’m never doing this again!!  thank goodness this is the last bathroom in my house that needed ‘redoing”.  bah!!

Oh but anyway, I moved the baby blanket to a 60″ needle (which is still too short) and have been trucking on the feather and fan a bit.  here is some progress pics:

sleep baby hush baby center

I have another blanket I promised someone I would help with in progress, but it’s so boring.  Just garter stitch.  UGH.   I was going to try to focus on just that, but it’s so boring, the yarn stick to the needles and there isn’t much gliding in there w/ the yarn on the needles.  I have to constantly put the needles down to shimmy the yarn around on them and it’s really frustrating and stupid.  there has to be a better way…..

that’s all for now, folks.  Thanks for tuning in. :)  Have a great weekend!
