Happy Thursday!

Hi everyone. Thanks for stopping by 🙂  I hope your week has been treating you well so far.

I do have a purse I want to show off…but I haven’t taken pictures of it yet.  So you guys have to wait another week. 🙂 hahaha  sorry folks.  Slackness rules.

My knitting mojo really has come back w/ a vengeance.  I’ve made up for the last few months when I hardly knit a thing.   So i’ve got some FO’s to show off.

These were made for my co-worker’s daughter.  She saw them on pinterest and she asked her mom if she knew anyone that crocheted.  Actually, this is the same girl that got the baylor bear headwarmer last week.

Cute shoes eh? I like how the mannequin feet show off the little shoes. 🙂

Made to go w/ the Yoda sweater shown last week.  The baby set is complete for grandma to give at her shower.   I did not put stiffner in the ears as directed by the pattern b/c I had none…and i was scared the stiffner would wash out if they washed the hat.  I felt they were stiff enough. (Snort…i said STIFF).

Matching booties anyone?

these were made to match the Puerperium Cardigan above.  I did not have to pull any extra yarn to make these booties match.  That was PURE luck.  Awesome luck. 🙂 hahaha.  Super cute.  These are knit flat and then seamed up.  I started off w/ the ones you do in the round, but I HATE purling in the round.   and I love the ribbed cuff.  So I switched. 🙂

And to go w/ the Jughead hat….

That couple’s gift is done.  That monkey is off my back. 🙂 hahahaha.

I think that’s all for now.  Not much is going on in my life except for work and knitting.  It’s weird..i knit/crochet so much this week that my hands were actually hurting on Tues.  I had to give myself a little break….less intensity.

I’m in the middle of a hat to match the 70’s stripey cardigan and booties.  I hope to give the complete set soon.

I found out that one of my cousin’s had a baby in December and another one is due any day now.  EVERYONE IS HAVING A BABY…or getting married.  ugh.  Everyone needs to slow down on the breeding…for Purse-Ho’s sake please 🙂 hahaha.

I hope everyone has a good weekend this weekend.  Thanks for stopping by 🙂  Take care and be safe!

Thursday, No purse-day!

Hello friends! 🙂

happy thursday to you all.   I’m going to try to get back in the swing of posting at least once a week.   “try”.  at least every other week for sure.

No purse today.  I haven’t bought a purse in a while and I don’t feel like digging for one I haven’t shown off yet.  I know i have quite a few…i’m just being a bit lazy.

The new year is going ok so far.  Not fantastic…not bad.  I did have alot of friends that got engaged on New Year’s Eve.  is it me, or is that really cliche?  hahahaha.  i kept getting txt msgs all night long “WE’RE ENGAGED!”  blech!  i’m happy for them, but blech. hahahaha.  Do I sound like a bitter crone yet? 🙂

My knitting/crochet mojo has come back with a vengeance.  I’ve been working non-stop on things that i either have a deadline for, or just feel like making RIGHT AT THAT MOMENT.

But anyway, i have some things to show off, so I will. 🙂

First off…this is the final Yoda sweater.  Well, final for a while.  I really don’t want to make another one for a while.

It's too small on Zoe. Beware of the Darkside, Logan! my dup. st skills are slacking and no room for a comma. I ran out of room almost at the end!

Project: seamless baby and toddler wrap

Amount Used: a little more than half a skein
Color: Teddy
Needle Size: US 4 (3.5 mm)
Date Started: Dec 22, 2011
Date Finished: Jan 7, 2012

On the inside is dup. stitched “Beware of the darkside, Logan”

Baby’s name is going to be Logan.  Parents are HUGE Star Wars fanatics.  I was asked (begged) by the grandma if I could find it in my heart to make a new one.  Grandma is my very special friend Kathy…so I made another one.  I was sick of dup. stitching “May the force be with you”.  i feel like a factory worker sometimes when you do something so often. 🙂   I am supposed to make another one, but i’m not feeling the love.  I was really hoping to make a pink one for a girl, but alas…that did not happen.  the stinky baby is a boy. hahah.

Working on a Yoda hat for the outfit as well.  it has to be ready in a few weeks for a baby shower!

Some of my Simpatico friends and I hang out at Barnes and Noble twice a week.  We’ve gotten very friendly w/ the cafe girl and she is pregnant!  Actually, she’s delivering her baby today!  We all decided to make her a bunch of things … washcloths, hats, bibs, etc and give her a big bag of goodies.  Well, I put a pink dress and some pink hats in there.  I did not finish my bib in time.  But i finished it after.  hahaha.  it’s such a cute bib, i’ll just put it in the baby shower stash.

I did this while watching Star Trek Insurrection again. 🙂 hahahaah.   I had to throw the bib on Chewy b/c he was getting in my way while I was trying to take pictures.  You be a pest?  I throw it on you and take pics!  he sat there for a min and then kind of shrugged off the bib.  and then he kind of jumped on top of it.  I had to take it away at that point.  stupid cute widdle evil cat.

I made this for my brother’s friend.  The baby was born in August and apparently he’s a big boy.  So i was asked to make it larger.  I made the baby’s big sister a sweater and shoes when she was born.  I have made nothing for this child and I started to feel guilty.  When my brother and I were discussing hats…he said “JUGHEAD HAT!”   I finished it so fast I amazed even myself. LOL.   working on picking out some shoes to make to match the hat.

I’m really digging the lime green and turquoise + white combination right now.  Which will explain the next project…

I made this sweater for my cousin’s baby.  I was going to send it…but I never really finished it.  I finished knitting it, but I needed to weave ends in and block…and I never got around to it until Jan 12.

Instead of the lace as required by the pattern, I did an i-cord edging w/ NO buttonholes.  I did the edging around the neck, front and sleeves.  And instead of two colors, I striped 3 colors (Obviously!).

I made these for my friend Auntie Pet b/c back in October when my grandpa died, she did me a favor and hooked me up w/ some plane tickets.  she saved me a whole lot a money.  This is just a small token of what I could give her to thank her.   I had tried to make FOUR diff. pairs of slippers I knew she loved! FOUR!  and all of them were a big fail!  UGH!  I was so mad!  then I saw she put these slippers up on her pinterest board as something she wanted, so i grabbed the pattern and whipped them up. 🙂  I Hope she likes them.  I made her try them on last week and i told her they were for my mom and she kind of ooh’d and aah’d. 🙂  Purse.Ho is pleased. 🙂

I made the button that is on the shoes rather than trying to hunt down a 1.5″ button.  (I was stuck at work and trying to finish them up!), so I had this button pattern from another pattern.  It’s super easy and great since the button doesn’t serve a function..just a decorative purpose.

This was a super fast knit.  My friend at work was asking if I could create something for her daughter to wear while she was riding her scooter around on Campus.  and she’s a Baylor Bear.   So i whipped one up for her!  The flower is a flower I used from a crochet pattern (I cant remember which one at this moment) rather than the flower that is in the pattern.  That one wasnt to my liking and I wanted to make the flower diff. colors.  so ta-da!  i threw in the daisy button b/c i like buttons and i like daisies. 🙂

whew.  that’s all folks.  I guess i’ve been busy the last couple of weeks.  🙂  I Hope you guys are having a great week/ month so far.  WHile at work today, when i was writing down “1/19/12” ….i thought…omg…it’s already past the half month mark!   I really wish time didn’t fly by as fast as it did.

have a great weekend everyone 🙂

Thursday Purse-Day!

Hi all.  I hope you are having a good week. I can’t believe it’s already Thursday.  I can’t believe it’s almost thanksgiving.  wtf?! 🙂

Here is this week’s bag….

cinchy bag cinchy bag flat inside

Does it surprise you that I have hello kitty fabric?  It shouldn’t. hahaah  actually, the bag was made from a shower curtain I decided not to hang in the bathroom anymore.  mainly b/c the boy was always all “OMG i can’t believe you have a HK shower curtain…”   plus i tend to get tired of shower curtains and get a new one when I see one I love.  So i took it and used the fabric for things like my ironing board cover and for the outside of this little bag.  I made this little bag for my friend’s daughter…but i never really finished it.  It’s supposed to have a bow.  bah.  I’m trying to find a picture of the original bag and I can’t find it.  booo.  anyway, i never did the bow so now this bag sits mostly done. hahaha.  it’s a very cute bag for a little girl!!  i’m just not in a good photo mode to take a better picture of it all.   anyway, the sewing pattern is fairly simple!  Sewing is fun, but then it’s not fun (according to Janice).  all the work that goes into cutting the fabric really kills me.  i don’t mind ironing, etc…it’s the cutting that really sucks! i’m so so bad at cutting fabric!

I went to Boerne, TX for Kid N’ Ewe and Lamas too!  I had alot of fun!  I got away for a couple of days and bought too much stuff, ate too much, laughed too much.  It was a weekend of gluttony.   I fell in love w/ something at the festival and I brought it home w/ me….

cricket loom loom

I fell in love w/ the Cricket loom.  I saw all these woven scarves while out there.  I have expressed interest in a loom in the past verbally, but never planned on doing anything with it.  Then boom.  it hit me right across the face and i was staring at it…drooling.  So on the loom is my first attempt at warping and doing a bit of weaving.  I stopped b/c I realized I needed to finish some other stuff before I start playing around w/ the loom, so i just stopped.  I’ll get back to it soon.  Warping it wasn’t hard at all!  and it wasn’t that annoying.  I say this b/c it was the first time I ever did it.   The yarn on the loom came with the box and i just followed the directions in the box as well as watched a few videos on youtube on how to do this. 😀  It’s fun!  I can’t wait to start making sock yarn scarves.  that’s my plan, anyway! hahahaha.

Our accommodations in Boerne were very nice.   We rented a cabin on a ranch that was tucked away in the middle of nowhere w/ a beautiful view of the hill country.  and there was a hot tub on our deck for our enjoyment.  HELLLOOOO!

I did finish another bunny for my friend’s daughter.

I would have finished it faster, but i wasn’t really feeling the love for SC over and over again at the moment.  My friend requested this doll for her daughter and she wanted it almost exactly like the last one I made.  That’s the funny thing about when friends ask for things. they want it EXACTLY as i did the last one.  i don’t like doing things EXACTLY as I did before.  i really don’t.  mainly b/c i hate like feeling like a factory where I make only one thing one way.  But whatever.  i managed to convince her that this color was better for her daughter, but i flat out refused to make it in white white.   It didn’t help much that while I was in Boerne, i broke my only crochet hook and I had to wait until the next day to hunt a new one down.  it’s not like it was difficult, but still!  busted up my groove!

I’m almost done w/ the first herringbone glove. why is it taking me so long?  I had to rip back 3 inches last week due to my concerns over the thumb increases.  I really screwed up there!!!!  So i had to rip it back and make it right.  stupid me.  and I didn’t get as much knitting done as I had hoped this week.  Work really gets in the way!!  GRRRR.

herringbone4 the thumb is now proper!

i’m about to do the fingers and thumb now. 🙂 wheee!

ok y’all.  i fell asleep last night and then managed to wake up really early to post today. hahahaha.  i think i’m going to go back to bed for a little while before I have to hit up work.

have a great day/weekend!

Thursday Purse-Day!

Happy Thursday everyone!  I hope your week is going well. 🙂  Not much is going on in my neck of the woods.    I’m actually trying to find a time balance to get everything I need to get done.  Everyone knows the holidays are coming up…and alot of ppl want gifts made.  I’ve been asked to make a few things for friends (for pay) and I fear I may have taken on more than I can really handle.   This is mainly b/c I can’t knit at work anymore (very sad.:()  and the fact that when I am home, i sometimes just feel like doing nothing.   What I really should do is learn how to say NO. hahahah  oh well.  Live and learn.

Here is this week’s bag!!

So I’m being really lazy today and stealing the photo off the manufacturer’s website.  This is a Chil bag by Blue Avocado.  This is one of those bags that can keep your groceries cold for up to 3 hours.  My favorite Asian grocery store is about 25-30 min away from where I live and I am extremely fearful of my food melting or getting warm…so this is a good addition to my arsenal. 🙂  I found it at Tuesday Morning for $5! WHEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!   According to their website, it replaces 3 grocery bags.  and

  • keeps food either hot or cold for 3 hours
  • messenger style strap
  • holds 20 lbs of frozen food
  • made from recycled materials

This week has been the week of crochet.  I haven’t done much knitting mainly b/c the things I have to knit right now are boring me to tears.  (boring plain garter stitch).  I’m helping someone finish up a jacket and the sleeves are boring.  the 60″ collar is boring me to death.  and for some reason, the whole jacket is pieced together w/ 3-needle bind off.  I like 3-needle bind off, but eh.  I’m kind of over it now.  I know it makes that nice ridge and blah blah blah…but honestly I don’ t like that ridge anymore.  but that is one of the “features” of the jacket.   I’ll be happy to get this stupid jacket off my mind.

So here are some of the FO’s I finished this week:

Hello, Mere! Mere is a little scared, since she's so new. :) Her long hair with a flower in it. :) Swimming to the left. she likes to put her hands together as she swims away. Hello, everyone :) ok her hair isn't really that long. i just kept hacking away at it to even it out. her flattened body. where are her arms!??!?! arm attachment surgery. :)

The last time I did this pattern, i waited forever to finish it b/c i’m stupid.  i think the last time I did this, i had a hard time understanding how to do the hair.  I get it more now than I did before.  The hair is what takes the longest.  I think the amount of time it took me to do the hair, it took me less time to do the entire rest of the body.  When i got home from knit night on Thurs, I was on a roll w/ the hair and managed to finish that within a few hours.  There were still ways I could have improved on how i did it.  But that’s ok.  This little mermaid is quite the hit. 🙂   she’s awfully cute!  This is for a friend at work that asked me to make one for her daughter so she could give it to her for Christmas.  I wanted to make sure I got it made and out of the way.

Hello bun bun! aren't you a cutie pie? thinking about who my new owner will be.... no scarf, flower moved up to the ear. all i need is a grass skirt and I will be a hawaiian bunny! or I can be a snow bunny w/ just a scarf on or I can be here in the corner, naked. ok i'm a naked bunny now.

This is one of my favorite amigurumi patterns.  Mainly b/c it’s simple and easy.  I decided to stuff the legs on this one.  I’ve never done that before.  I’m very pleased!  My friend, crazy Kathy suggested I put on a pom pom on her butt.  hahaha.  I didn’t do it.  I’m pretty weird about pompoms.  When I make them, I make them pretty big and then i hack away at it until it’s perfectly fluffy.  I’m being kind of lazy and not feeling the love for the pompom butt.  I think it’s b/c the rest of the bunny is smooth and not fluffy.  This was made for a co-worker’s daughter.  🙂  She’s being given away tomorrow.  I did feel that the bunny needed an accessory of some kind, which is why she has the scarf.  and of course, i’m obsessed w/ those little crochet flowers!  OMG!  they are just so cute on EVERYTHING!!  just adds a touch of girlyness to everything. 🙂  well, i guess it wouldn’t be cute on something for a boy…but whatever. 😀

I’m working on a little ballerina doll which is similar to the mermaid doll.  it’s super cute and I can’t wait to see it done.  I already have her little head all finished with the bun in the hair.  squee! ;D

Thursday Purse-Day!!

Hi all!  I hope you guys are having a great week so far.  It’s Thursday!  one of the best days of the week.  Why?  well, for me I get to see my knit grrls! 😀  WHEE!

Here is this week’s bag

badge holder inside...just a few of many to come

This little case is for holding my badges.  I’ve got 3 going on and I am needing to add 3 more to my stack within the next month.  My id holder can’t hold that many cards and I”m so paranoid i’m going to lose one…so i just put them all in this case to keep track of them.  i pray i never lose one.  it’s such a pain to get a replacement!

I got some knitting done this week. 🙂

making the bigger size b/c the sucker was 9 lbs 6oz when born and is sure to get gigantic.

omg i knit half the sweater and realized I was going to:

  1. run out of yarn…this stuff is discontinued and one of the ppl online that has some of this yarn that I considered asking to pay for some or trade for…i don’t like her very much. lol.
  2. this sweater was REALLLLLLLLy huge. I ripped out all the way to the armhole increases and then i ended up making size 0-6mo which was big enough for my 9 mo size doll zoe. Apparently even though I got gauge, this yarn made the sweater really huge.
  3. it took me forever to decide how to do the letters on the inside of the jacket. 🙂 i did them at first at 5-6 sts high and you really couldn’t read what it said. So i changed it to 9 sts high and it came out much better, but I didn’t get the chance to personalize it w/ the baby’s first name. oh well.

i went to the fair to look at my ribbons and eat all the fried food I could possibly eat.  🙂  I had a blast!  My friends and i ate everything we could try. 🙂  Fried butter, fried chocolate, fried frito pie….man oh man.  and i did get my big cup of root beer.  Sloshing in my stomach as we decided to leave.  hAHAhAhaH!

2010 Texas State Fair

I also am working on a jacket for someone I promised I would help her finish like 2 years ago.  EEEEEEEK!    no pics.  it’s boring and slow going.  so of course i started something for me.  a new wimple. 🙂

it’s so pretty so far. 🙂   it’s made of a cashmere blend yarn.  so soft and yummy. 🙂

ok that’s all for now!  have a great weekend everyone!

Thursday Purse-Day! :)

Happy Thursday everyone!   I hope your week has been going well so far.  Just one more day until the weekend. 🙂  yipppee!  actually, not for me.  i work all weekend this weekend.  So boooo! haaha

This week’s bag is a cute one!

Choochoooooo! choo choo caboose! inside :)

This is a gem from P-La!  I think she was clearing out her stash and decided to give these away!  She crazy huh??  I snatched it up right away! WHEEE!  It’s super cute!!

I’ve been a bit of a busy bee this week.   I have a friend at work that is having a baby soon and her shower is on Friday!  Before she got pregnant, she had this long list of things I “needed” to make for her if she were to get pregnant.   I said “sure sure…whatever you want!”   hahaha.  doh!  So last week I realized I had ONE week to work on all the stuffs! EEk!  i got a few things done though. 🙂

So….last Fri i was talking to janice and got a big hair up my butt and decided “I’m dying the blanket TO-NIGHT!!!!!”  I went to Janice’s house and shopped her dye stash.  She let me take home some supplies and some dye.  I decided on Golden Ochre as my color.  That was it.  THis was the decision!!  WHEEEE!

So i get home…and researched HOW i’m going to do this.

I looked up the instructions on how Shipwreck was done b/c I remember P-La did this shawl.  She knit the shawl and then dyed it.

So you just mix the dyes, dump it in a big pot, bring it to a simmer, throw in the shawl/blanket…let it simmer for 30 min until the dye is soaked up and the water is clear…rinse…dry.   Simple right?  Janice already had a batch of dye mixed up, so I used that…then I mixed another batch b/c it wasn’t enough liquid.

As it was simmering..i took a gander at it and I was all “huh.  it’s so dark.  Maybe it will lighten up once it’s rinsed!!!”

Rinsing…it’s still really dark.  but the water is rinsing goldenrod yellow.   “huh.  it’s still so dark.  Maybe it will lighten up once it’s dry!”

It’s dry.  “Huh.  this is really F’ing dark!!!”

Laugh at me.  everyone else did. 🙂

dark blanket obvious

on a good note….it really does cover up the color change in the previous picture. 😀 hahahahah

Ppl say this could be a UT Longhorn blanket.  I’ve had a friend at work offer to buy it from me for her grandson that is due in October and they are UT fanatics.    We’ll see. 😀

I talked about Hey Teach last week and how i was going to use that lavendar colored Cotton Fleece to do it.  I did a gauge swatch and got the same gauge as i did w/ the red yarn!  I was unhappy w/ the choice.  Then janice said “just do a bigger size in the red yarn!  the lavendar color doesnt look good on you.”  she’s so smart.  I dont’ know why that didn’t occur to me.  Maybe b/c I liked saying “I’m making size MEDIUM”. hahahaahh

I just finished the back piece today. 🙂  what do you think of the color?  I LUUUURVES IT!!

Botgurl and I went to the Depeche Mode concert back in 2005.  wow.  has it really been 5 years since that great show??  Sheesh!!  We’ve even been to another one of their shows since this one!  anyway, we always hit the merchandise table to see if there is anything good.  I rarely buy t-shirts b/c they are cheaply made, i never wear them and they cost too much.  So i always look for alternatives:  bags, mugs, buttons, stickers.   This bag was pretty inexpensive.  If memory serves me right, $10.  wheee!

Thanks to everyone for all the bday wishes. 🙂   you guys really made my day!!   I haven’t gotten much knitting done this week due to some chaos around here.   i tried to help/support the boy thru a terrible tragedy and it’s weird how knitting isn’t on my priority list when bad things happen like this.    thanks for the friends that are aware of what happened and for your prayers.  They are greatly appreciated.

well, actually, I did knit some and the boring feather and fan on the blanket was kind of good.  Mindless (BUT BORING) knitting.   but knitting this many stitches is starting to drive me bonkers.  good news!  i’m on the border part of the blanket !! YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  so next week i will have a finished blanket to show off.

But i have a dilemma.  So i ran out of yarn.  I shopped my stash to start the blanket like a good girl and found these 3 skeins of jitterbug i got for $40.  not bad right?  considering this stuff sells for $25 a skein street value.  ahahah  well, i had to buy two more skeins from loopy ewe to give me what i needed to finish.  In the poor lighting at my house, i couldn’t tell there was a dye lot issue.  Normally i don’t care about that stuff b/c i can usually just deal.  but in the daylight lighting at BN on Weds night, i noticed a BIG difference.

CAN YOU SEE????????  it’s PEACHY in the center, but then more PINKY toward the edges!?!?  WTF?!?!?! AAAAAAAAAAH!!  it’s the same damn color, but diff. dye lots!!!   i can’t leave it like this and say it’s a design element!

What am i going to do????  I’m going to submit this to the state fair and I can’t have it looking like this!!  some of the gals said to just finish it and see how it looks when i’m done.   i was going to finish it regardless.  I wasn’t going to tink back what i did.   i was about 20 rows in when i realized what happened.  Then a thought occurred….i could just dye it once i’m done.   Someone suggested doing like a tea dye…other suggested doing a totally diff. color.  I thought OOOH!!  CRIMSON RED!  but for a baby blanket?  eh.  not such a keen idea.   Someone suggested black which isn’t a bad idea, but i don’t know how ppl would handle a black baby blanket.

What should i do?   HELP ME!  what do you guys think?  if i dye it, what is your suggestion for color?  leave me a comment or shoot me an email and give me your thoughts!  PLEEEASE! 😀

weird times.

This has been a weird few weeks for me.  In the last 20 days, I’ve lost 2 important people in my life.   I’ve actually been pretty ok throughout it all.  I thought in the past when something like this would happen to me, I would be a horrible wreck.  I’d never lost anyone in my family or anyone close to me before.  So I got hit with a double whammy.

Ma Ma

The first was my paternal grandmother.  I mentioned this in my last blog post that she passed and I went for the funeral and such.  I don’t really say much online b/c that side of my family has issues w/ privacy and they will be pretty angry if they ever find this blog and see that i wrote about it.  but right now … I guess I don’t really care.

My grandmother and I weren’t THAT close.   I saw her 1-2x every year.  We had a bit of a language barrier.  She spoke NO English, and my Chinese isn’t fluent enough for her to have a really deep meaningful conversation.   I loved her to death.  She was a little bitty thing that had 13 children.  Whenever I stood next to her, I felt like a giant.  Yeah, i know i was really fat and all that, but I mean in stature as well.  She was about 4 feet tall.  And she always had a smile on her face.  We never understood WHY she was always smiling, but it always made us smile as well.   She was always one of the happiest people I ever knew.  She was always proud of her children, grand children and great grandchildren.    She had alot of hardships in life, but it didn’t keep her from doing all that she did to provide a wonderful home for her family.   I’m going to miss her smile and her laugh.   I’m going to miss laughing at how tiny she was.  I’m going to miss seeing her interact with my mom and dad..the little things she did and the things they talked about.   I’m going to miss how my mom would scold her every time she would give my brother and me red envelopes with money in it and we would just giggle as she fought back and shoved the envelopes in our hands.  I’m going to miss watching her and my other grandmother fight over the check whenever we all went to dinner together.

She was 96 years old when she passed.  I am sad that she is gone.  Her health wasn’t so great this last year, so I saw it as a kind of blessing when she left us.  I don’t say that to be mean or cold, but she lived a long, healthy life with so much joy and pride.  I couldn’t bare to see her in pain.  i was blessed to have her in my life for 32+ years.

Another person that has left my life is my dear friend Lee.  She was a bit crazy, but she was hilarious.  She was part of my Simpatico knitting group and she was always there.  She would call me almost daily to check in on me and just chit chat about our lives.  She knew so much about me and my life.  I think I told her more about what was going on w/ me all the time than i told my own mother.  She was always so sweet.   We talked about life, religion, politics, dinner, drinks, music.  Whenever she dropped the F bomb, I would always yell “LEEE!!!!”  then we would both crack up like crazy.  We talked about everything.  Who knew I could become so close to a woman that was in her 70’s.

I’m going to miss the stories about her family, how much she loved them.  I’m going to miss going shopping with her.  I’m going to miss going to lunch with her.  I’m going to miss her addiction to Chai tea and peanut butter and chocolate.   I’m going to miss how she always wanted to make whatever i was making, but then would throw her hands up in frustration when she realized it was beyond her realm of abilities.   I’m actually going to miss how she would throw her socks at me every dang time she dropped a stitch and would say “OH NO OH NO!! I DROPPED A STITCH! HELP HELP!!”

Her health had been rapidly declining in the last 6 months.  i didn’t get to see her or talk to her as much as I had before.  I was blessed with the fact that I got to say goodbye to her a few hours before she passed.  I guess someone just spoke to me and told me I needed to see her right then and there.  I’m sad she is gone, but I am glad she is no longer in the pain she was in.

I was asked to speak at her memorial service tonight on behalf of the Simpatico group.  I felt honored that the family asked me to do so.   I had to keep it short and sweet, under 2 minutes which was a bit difficult.  I have so many stories I could tell of Lee…I could talk for hours.   I’m not scared of public speaking, but I got nervous when I thought about the fact that I had to keep it so short.  What could I say that could really capture the essence of Lee?  I was able to hold it together this whole weekend until after I sat down and saw my friends crying at what i said about her.  Then it really kind of hit me…Lee really isn’t coming back this time.  I can’t call her and hear her cheery voice on the other end of the phone.   I can’t wave sock yarn in her face and make her jealous.  I no longer have to buy matching sock yarn with her so she would have enough yarn to knit for her big ‘ol feet.  I’m no longer going to help her kitchner her socks or knit half the sock for her.  I’m not going to hear her say “jennifer…HELP!!” any time she runs into another problem.  Hopefully where she is, she is a master knitter and is knitting with the bestest stuff that was spun from the clouds above.

Good night, Lee.  I’ll make sure to sit next to you when I see you next and I’ll finish your socks for you.

Thursday Purse-Day!

Happy Thursday everyone!  I hope y’all have had a good week so far.

This is this week’s little bag!

Chococat! back view inside

This is the cutest little coin purse/card wallet.  It’s big enough to put a few cards in it and some cash, change and maybe some chapstick. 🙂   I’d never seen a coin purse like this one before and I had to get it (duh).    I love coin purse clasps.

I’ve been knitting, but i’ve got knitters’ ADD right now.  I started a mitten project and finished the left mitten before I realized I made a mistake throughout the 2nd half of the mitten.  I’m not going to rip it out and re-do it.  I figured I could “correct” the mistake…but when I tried it proved to be a  little more difficult than I expected.  So …. i don’t know what i’m going to do.  The gauge is too tight on it as well and it’s puckering a bit.   As much as i LOVE fair isle…that is my complaint about how I do fair isle.  Sometimes i don’t loosen up enough when I knit and it ends up all puckered and I find that quite annoying. 🙂 i’m hoping blocking it out is going to fix some of the puckering.  but after I soaked it and everything, it didn’t seem like that was going to happen.  I need some mitten blockers.  Need to buy some plastic placemats so I can make some.

So anyway..i wasn’t feeling the love for the colors of the yarn.  well, I wasn’t feeling that the colors were appropriate for the recipient, so I restarted with a diff. yarn, diff. color and a renewed sense of keeping it loose. hahaaha.

here is the completed left mitten (starter set):

left top left palm side BIG mistakes!

I’m trucking along on the *new* mittens.  I’ve already finished the left one and I’m pleased w/ how it’s turned out.   I should have the set finished by this weekend.

i did a bit of baking this week.  My co-workers were complaining that I never bring food to work to bribe them for their love and affection.  The conversation turned to cinnamon rolls and banana bread.  i told them I had a banana bread recipe I saw and wanted to try.  Mainly b/c i love banana bread and it looked super easy.  it was super easy!  just as easy as a box mix!!

banannnnnnna! demolished by co-workers. it looks like an animal got to it. check out the crumbs on the floor.

i had some weird issues w/ taste last week.  Everything i ate tasted bad.  I don’t know what was wrong or whatever…but everything either tasted burnt or had a weird metallic taste to it.  so when i tasted the banana bread…it tasted bad.  but everyone at work liked it. 🙂  that makes me happy! 😀   I made some pumpkin gingerbread too on Monday and took it to the Simpatico group today where they all ate it and said they liked it.  Which is good.  I can’t keep stuff like that at home too long or else I will end up eating the whole thing solo.  my waistline doesn’t need that addition.  😀  sadly i did not take a photo of the pumpkin gingerbread loaf.  it smelled so good here when it was baking and it was pretty tasty.  another keeper for the recipe box!

Ok that’s all for now, folks. 🙂  have a great weekend!

Thursday Purse-Day!

Hi everyone.  It’s Thursday.  You know what that means!!

I participated in a swap on Ravelry and this week’s bag is from the swap. 🙂

a placemat bag! :)

This little bag was made by Coco!  Thank you, COCO!! 🙂  She said it was made from a placemat. awesome.  I love the ladybugs 😀

She made me the bestest swap package!  We were both a part of the BBT Swap on Rav (Big Bang Theory).  She put the package I sent to my swap partner to shame.  She put so much thought into it all. 🙂

So i finally finished the Danish Tie Shawl.  😀

Front view back view to the side other side back lifted up so you can see the ties. :) looks like a manta ray

ProjectDanish Tie Shawl (rav link)
Malabrigo Lace
Amount Used:
1.5 skeins
Color: 126 Brilliante
Needle Size:  US 4 / 3.5mm
Date Started: Dec 23, 2009
Date Finished:  Feb 1, 2010

Please ignore the unweaved ends in some of the spots. hahaha.  i’m horribly lazy.   this is a great pattern.  so easy, but a bit boring at times.  What would I do different?  use bigger yarn and bigger needles.  maybe  malabrigo worsted.  This seemed to take FOR-EVA!!  but i love the shawl.  it’s so soft and butterrrrrrry.  mmmmmmmm.  and the colors attract so much attention.  not that I need attention or anything…but you guys know what i mean! ahahah  me <3’s it.

I have alot on my start list that i want to do RIGHT NOW! hahaa.  i did start on a new shawl for a friend who needs alot of prayer right now.  She had a family tragedy and all I can do is think good thoughts for the family and be there for them if they need me.  My friend’s bday is coming up and she’s been asking me for a shawl for like 2 years now.  I figured this would be a great time to make a crochet entrelac shawl for good thoughts and stuffs.

crochetentrelac2 crochetentrelac

I have some issues w/ how the pattern is written.  it’s a little complicated.  not impossible, but it’s weirdly written.  i want to have this done by next week which is when her bday is 🙂  tee hee.

I saw a cute little girl today (HI TIERNEY) w/ the cutest little ear flap hat on her head today.  it made me want the hat so bad.  I must make one similar.  since it’s cold here right now…i want to start it right now. hahaha. hopefully i can have it done fast so i can wear it.  which pattern to use though…no idea.  there are so many ear flap hats to choose from. 🙂 all i know is i need to choose yarn that won’t itch my poor head. 🙂

I still haven’t finished the R2D2 doll b/c i don’t feel like cutting out all the felt to embellish it.  So i’m trying to think of a way where i can duplicate stitch all the colors on…which means knitting the doll…which means i have to make up my own pattern. hahaah. we’ll see how that comes along.

Have a great weekend everyone!
