Goodness MSWF was awesome!
8th May 2007
So i got back late last night from MD and i had a GREAT time w/ my girls at MSWF. The festival was so busy and incredible. We did so much walking. My feet were KILLING ME!! I actually wore sneakers rather than my usual flip flops. (I was forced!!!) But the sneakers I took were sneakers I have only worn once before. the Pirate even asked me “OMG…did you just BUY those shoes last night??” nope. but i had only worn them once. teeheeeeee so my feet were hurtin’!! but they were clean. hahaah
So i got there on Fri evening and met up w/ the Pirate at the airport and we took off to find NanC’s brother and family’s house where we were to be staying. We got and got settled in and waited for BotGurl to arrive. She finally arrived, and after all the excitement died down, we all went to bed, excited for Saturday.
We got up and saw the incredible line to the the MSWF. We parked the cars and then ran straight to The Fold’s booth to wait for STR! The line was LONG. it was a 45 min wait just to browse and grab. THen the line to pay was another 30 min long. it was bizarre to say the least. I was shocked at how many people got in line just b/c there was a line. then they would ask ‘what is this a line for? so what’s so great about this stuff that we have to wait in line?’. weird!!!!
I had an armful of STR and was waiting in the pay line when this lady asked me “Geez…did you leave enough for the rest of us?” i only had 7 skeins! i saw some lady that had like 20!! So i said “there is plenty left! you should have seen some people ahead of us!” then she looked at me and said “HEY!! aren’t you the purse ho?” and i got a bit…frightened. haha. I looked at BotGurl and then looked at this lady again and said “Um….yes.i.am.how.do.you.know.that?” Then she said “OMG! I’m LINDA!! THe knitorious Mrs. B!” She was my secret pal gifter that gave me so much cute kitty cat stuff for the Warshrag swap. So we had to take a picture together!
My STR haul was pretty good. I got 7 skeins. Not a TON…but i did put a dent in my wallet. I”m lucky that’s the first place we stopped at or else i would have really gone crazy at all the other place we went to. but since this was our first stop, i felt the pain and had to watch what i bought as we went along.
So here is photos of the stuff i got.
I think i did OK considering i could have gone really wild. teeeheeeee!
So we got to walking around the main building and i saw the wheel i’ve been itching to buy. I’ve been wanting it, but i haven’t touched it….so I have been wanting to wait to try it before i ran off and bought it online. The Majacraft Little Gem II. I found one there. i tried it. i love it. now i want to buy it. now i just need to look for a good deal! anyone know of someone selling one used? hahaha
So while we were walking around and touching everything, we saw that Eunny Jang was going to be at the Interweave booth and of course, being a fan, i wanted to shake her hand and possibly take a picture. WE got there and i got a bit nervous seeing her standing there. and the first thing i said was “can i take a picture with you?” DUHHH. but she was nice and said “SURE!”
then i finally blurted out “i’m a big fan. i’m sad to see you are too busy to blog much anymore!”
she goes “ohh…yeahh…i’m sad about that too”
Me: I’ve left comments for you on your blog before and you’ve always replied. Thanks for that!
Eunny: Oh really? who are …?
Me: My name is Jennifer. I always sign my comments as “Jen da Purse Ho”.
Eunny: OMG! That’s YOU!?!
Me: YES!! (at this point i’m beaming). that’s mEEE!!!! OMG you know who i am!!!!
BotGurl stepped up after taking our pic and we started telling her how we thought she was the most perfect person to be the new editor of Interweave knits. She was flattered. I thought Eunny was super sweet. I’m glad I didn’t chicken out and I went and talked to her.
We also did the knit bloggers’ meet up and i was glad to meet a few fellow knitbloggers. We hung out w/ Terri and Kelpknits (I can’t remember her name right now…sorry). everyone was so nice!!
We ate lots of lamb, ribbon chips and kettle korn. ON sunday we did a bit of dipped cone goodness. I’d never had a dipped cone before. My gawd..it was tasty.
We got to watch the end of the Sheep-to-Shawl competition which was incredible. We tried bidding on the 1st place shawl…but we got out bidded FAST. so oh well.
After the competition and a bit more walking around…we all got unbelievably tired and wanted to go home. I found out i had to catch my flight at 5:05p. So i had enough time to race back, pack up all my crap and BotGurl raced me to the airport. I made it w/ time to spare. i was exhausted, but I had so much fun. We need to do Rhinebeck in October! hahahaha

It was so good to meet you at MSWF. I had great fun hanging out with the Texas contingent. You made some great purchases. I love the antique yarn holder! For my part, I’m staying away from Rhinebeck (danger, danger, Will Robinson!), opting instead to go to Stitches East in Baltimore in October. That will be dangerous enough!

I love the antique yarn holder!!! How cool is that? Everytime I get to an antique store, I am always looking for old knitting/crochet/sewing things and very rarely find anything. It’s always fun to hunt though. Nice purchases! So glad you had fun and got to meet Eunny!!!! Very cool!

Okay, so I saw you pick up and buy the yarn holder, but when did you get the darning egg? Sneaky girl!
The whole trip was a blast, and I hope we can do it again next year — our group made a good team.

I have seen you at Simpatico before. I think you are VERY FUNNY and now I “know” someone who has gone to MDS&W. Cool! I will say Hi the next time I am in Simpatico, which is my favorite store. How did the stitch markers go over?

You have never had a dip cone?!?!? Girl!!
Ha! Luv you!!!
I’m so glad we got to experience it together and I’m envious of the STR that you bought and I didn’t!!!

It was cool to meet you last weekend! I had no idea that Eunny was at the Interweave booth, I must have walked by that thing a million times without actually looking inside. I can’t wait to see that Tess gradient kit knitted up!

Thanks for sending me the photo of us together. My stupid camera actually did take a photo, and i will send you a copy.
Didn’t mean to spook you on the Blue Moon line, but girl, ya famous and you have to learn to accept your celebrity and deal with it! hehehehe! Did you think I was psycho??? hahahaha!
Only 7 skeins? My girls had you beat!!! Next year i m getting there real early so i can be first on the Blue Moon line!!!!Love their yarn!!!
What are the odds of two Monthly Dishcloth Knitting Group Exchange Pals meeting up like that???!!!
Love what you bought. I didn’t even get to Tess Yarns. I never saw the Interweave Booth either. We were done in and BROKE by 4 pm Sunday and thought it would be masocistic to continue looking with no M-O-N-E-Y!
I tried that $800+ electic spinning wheel and am going to dig out my drop spindle and have a go at it again with some of the roving i got from Peace Fleece.

Ha ha ha! I love hearing you retell the events of this weekend. So good and true.

Hey Jen!
I was at MDSW on Sat, sorry we didn’t get to meet!!

that sounds like so much fun! Cant believe you got to meet Eunny…she is a genius! I probably would have been too shy to go up and talk to her, but then again, being around all that wool might have lowered my inhibitions : ) Ive never seen an antique yarn holder before, who knew? Glad you made it there and back again safely!!

Is that a skein of STR in Jasper I spy there in the back! I’m so jealous.
