Thursday Purse-Day!
11th February 2010
Hello everyone! it’s a snowy day here in DFW!!! it’s snowing snowing! FLUFFY SNOW! i know it’s nothing compared to what they are getting up north….but i missed the Christmas Eve/Day snow here in Dec…so I’m excited. i want to scoop some up and save it for a snowball! :) teee heee!
This week’s bag is a cutie.
I was shopping at Ross this week for a new sheet set and I always have to peruse all the bags. I saw this little gem there and thought it would be a cute makeup bag. :) $3!! I LOVE ROSS!!!
I’ve been busy making little things this week. I managed to make a couple of pillows/plushes, a hat. the 2nd one I haven’t finished quite yet b/c I’m not happy w/ how it looks. bah!

I put “DORK” on there b/c that’s what I call the boy and he HATES IT! hahahaa. I didn’t add the wings as called for in the pattern b/c…well…i didn’t feel like making them. I didn’t feel like knitting a square of wool to felt and cut into wings. and acrylic felt just don’t do in this case. So these are sans-wings.
Project: Winged Heart tattoo (rav link)
Yarn: Encore Worsted
Amount Used: 1/3 a skein
Color: 999 and yellow
Needle Size: US 4 / 3.5mm
Date Started: Feb 5, 2010
Date Finished: Feb 5, 2010
My only complaint/observation about this pattern….I can’t make it look like the one in the picture on the pattern. the one on the pattern is SUPER cute! But my placement of the banner isn’t right…it was kind of hard to do. and I decided to duplicate stitch the word on there rather than use embroidery thread b/c i thought it would look better. it looks “a’ight”. my observation of the pattern is that everyone else that did it had the same kind of issues i did b/c no one else’s looks AS CUTE as the sample in the picture. so hmmm…
That hat i was talking about last week? I managed to finish it pretty fast.
Isn’t it cute? I need to add fur to the earflaps! I have some fur I got at walmart of all places. I just need to cut the pieces out and sew them on. But i’m being lazy. but I like how the earflaps curl out. it’s so cute!
Project: Chunky Ribbed Earflap Hat (rav link)
Yarn: Hushabye Ombre
Amount Used: 1/2 a skein
Color: 120 - pink/brown camo
Needle Size: US 10 / 6.0 mm
Date Started: Feb 4, 2010
Date Finished: Feb 4, 2010
So this hat is written for a child. I got gauge on the yarn and I just re-wrote to fit my head.
(these notes are also available on my rav project page for this)
here are my numbers for this project:
CO 5, follow as written. End with 14 sts for the earflap.
Brim: cable cast on 28 sts (front of hat)
cable cast on 24 sts (back of hat)
total number of sts on needles - 80 sts.
where you knit the hat, knit 14 sts instead of 12 across the earflap part, rib the rest.
no icord, no tassles and I added a pompom on top b/c i love pompoms.
The crochet entrelac shawl I was working on last week has been frogged. :) I decided the yarn wasn’t complimenting the pattern, so I picked a different pattern to make the shawl out of. I’m more pleased w/ my choice. it’s coming out better than I thought it would and the pattern is pretty easy once you get going. This pattern has also helped me learn how to read crochet charts. YAY!
It’s going to be a few days late…but oh well.
I’ve been cooking all weekend/week. i was checking out Chinese New year recipes on the web since Chinese New year starts on Sun…same day as valentine’s day. I usually go to the asian store about once every 1-2 weeks to get veggies and other things I can’t get at a “normal” grocery store. I got some egg roll wraps, some wonton wraps, ground pork, etc. There are no good wonton noodle places around my house. I have to drive at least 10-15 miles to get to a decent place and I never like their choice of noodles. So i usually just make my own. it’s so much cheaper to make my own and I never like shrimp wontons…just pork. so i sit down for an hour and roll out a batch of wontons and freeze them. Instant dinner. well…10 min. all you have to do is throw the wontons in the pot, add noodles and veggies and it’s a great meal that makes me happppppy. :) The recipe I use is one my mom taught me years ago. i don’t even measure the stuff out anymore…i just start putting a little bit here and there. hahaaha.
I also bought a little deep fryer this week since I bought egg roll stuffs. Usually I just fry them up in a pan, but i hate doing it that way b/c i never really fry them all nice and golden and crispy. The boy has been telling me for months to get a deep fryer and he was shocked I never had one. So I got a little one this weekend. and OH MAN! it was AWESOME!!!! My first batch I fried up about 20 egg rolls and ate them over a period of like 3 days. hahaaha. oops. I got carried away while frying. but my gawd. perfectly crunchy and crispy. mmmmm. Apparently these things are great for making all sorts of things that I like. Like wings! WHO KNEW!?!?
Recipe is based on one my mom gave me as well. But I saw one on Steamykitchen.com that was basically the same, but added one ingredient. it made a huge difference in taste. and I didn’t add mushrooms b/c i HATE mushrooms. :) Her eggroll rolling pics are great! :) and I cheated and didn’t chop up cabbage and carrots. i’m bad at chopping up cabbage. But when i was at the store, I saw a bag of coleslaw mix and it was perfect. just the perfect amount of cabbage and carrots.
Pork filling. Same thing goes…prepare the filling…let it cool…then sit down for an hour as you watch tv and roll, baby, roll. i have a nice few batches sitting in the freezer now.
I tested them out on the girls at work. apparently they got approval. yay!
Ok that’s all for now folks. I fell asleep for a while while watching some tv and I woke up around 3a when it started to snow. I think I’m too wired up to sleep now. haahah. but i’ll try. :) have a great weekend!
